In a game of Quidditch you score points by putting the Quaffle through one of the three hoops.  The Keeper guards the hoops to prevent the opposing team from scoring a goal.  Oliver Wood was the Keeper for Gryffindor when Harry first started playing.  After Wood graduated, Ron Weasley (with a little help from Hermione) became the Gryffindor Keeper.
